The Rules of Roller Champions

Summary

The game of Roller Champions is played on a curved, oval track with clear vertical walls on each side. Each game lasts for up to seven minutes, plus up to three minutes of overtime.

During a game, each team fields three Skaters. Teams start on opposite sides of the track and the ball is released at the start of section 4.

Teams score points by completing laps with the ball and then shooting the ball through the goal. Points scored by each goal depend on the number of laps completed with the ball prior to scoring.

Roller Champions is a full-contact sport.

The team who reaches five points before the end of the game, or the teamwith the most points at the end of the game, wins.

The track must conform to the standardized dimensions of the Roller Champions Track Specifications. The track must be clean and suitable for roller skating. The entrances to the track must seal once the game begins and must not provide an obstacle or gap in the track.

A start line must be provided at the entrance to turn one and a circular goal must be attached to the outside wall above the start line. Markers must also be displayed on the floor indicating the entrance to each section of the track as follows:

  • Section 4 begins at the exit to the second turn and ends at the start line

Glowing lines must be displayed on the transparent walls on the outside of the track to indicate the number of laps currently completed by the ball-holding team. These lines must match the colour of the teams.

3. Scoring

3.1. Earning Points

Skaters who are in control of the ball are able to score points by completing laps in a counter-clockwise direction and then shooting the ball through the goal.

3.2. Scoring Laps

Skaters who are in control of the ball must make laps in a counter-clockwise direction in in order to be eligible to score points. These laps must start at the start line, regardless of where the skater came into possession of the ball, and continue through each of the four sections in order. A lap is complete for scoring purposes when the skater controls the ball in section 4.

Skaters may pass the ball to another skater on their team by throwing or handing it to the other skater. This does not reset their lap count.

If the ball comes into the possession of the other team, the original team’s lap count is reset.

Indicators on the walls of the track will display the progress of the laps, displaying up to three lines to indicate up to three completed laps. This indicator will progress each time the player so that when the ball enters a section the indicators will light up to the end of that section.

Points scored depend on the number of laps completed:

  • One lap completed prior to scoring the goal earns the team one point
  • Two laps completed prior to scoring the goal earns the team three points
